Jason, SD and SDHC cards are so cheap that you can buy cheaper replacements. One thing to keep in mind (which may be part of your problem) – do not delete the images you downloaded to your computer card while it is still on the computer. Copy and paste from the card to hard drive of your computer. Then, remove the SD / SDHC, put it back on the camera and deleting or formatting in the camera (once we have secured the photos, in fact, the transfer to the hard drive). However, only one point, it is easy memory card failure not save your photos in them. At the end of each "day of shooting" download your photos to a computer and backing up those files as well. Make sure you keep track of special memories. I personally would not trust my CD as a backup medium because it can easily fail as well. Recommend an external hard drive and / or based on Internet Options. Good luck.
